Dune Magic

Photo of the Sierra Nevada Mountains near Lone Pine, California.

Sierra Nevada Mountains

Frosted mountains to our right

Headed south down 395
Frosted mountains to our right
After Lone Pine headed left
Panamint Valley then the crest

Spent the night in Stovepipe
Up early before the light
Hiked the dunes up and down
At the top we looked around

Dunes as far as we could see
Silence was nature’s symphony
Waited for the sun to rise
Felt your love by my side

Dune magic in that gentle light
Feeling good feeling right
Then the sun so bright appeared
Shapes and shadows everywhere

Dune magic in that golden light
Felt the magic deep inside

Photo of Death Valley sand dunes before sunrise.

I have hiked the Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes in Death Valley National Park for years.   If you get up before dawn and hike into the dunes, the pre-dawn stillness and light are magical.  Then when the sun rises over the Amargosa Range to the east, it creates a magical landscape with beautiful shadows and curved shapes.  The dunes turn from light greys to golds.  It is one of my favorite places to be, one of my favorite places for photography, and it is even more magical if you can share it with your love.
